Priorities are a Thing I Have

So this week is academically not that strenuous. This is good, because this week has a lot of season finales. That I want to not wait until the weekend to watch. I'm totally on top of my work though.

The main problem comes more from the fact that the weather has been lovely for a few days now, so I have to pry myself outside to enjoy it.

Currently however, there is a thunderstorm. So of course, I'm watching that. I love thunderstorms. While it's definitely not snowing I would love to see a thunderstorm with some snow. That would be amazing. It's instead raining, but just softly enough that it isn't always clear if the sound I hear is rain, or just the wind in the trees.

A Notsome Start

So today it was raining when I left for class. I assumed that the reason the back of my legs were wet was because of the rain. It turns out that my water bottle lid wasn't fully screwed on. As I walked, it was spilling on me. I then got to sit on what quickly turned into a wet chair for two hours.

The rest of the day was better, but it wasn't a great start.

Doodling and Snow

This post is mostly pictures.
I've been working on a doodle lately. I spent some time last night coloring it.

Today I walked around my school campus and took some pictures of what it looks like covered in snow. This is also a little bit of a tour of my campus.

Knitting Update

A little while ago I lost my winter coat, and with it my hat and scarf, that I had knit. I've since gotten a new coat. While at first I was very disappointed to have lost my hat and scarf, especially considering the amount of work I put into them, I decided to take advantage of the situation.

First I knit myself a new hat.

It's a Jayne hat. For those of you who don't watch Firefly, that probably means nothing. For those of you do watch Firefly, isn't it awesome? There are a lot of patterns online, I used one that I found on ravelry, though I don't remember which one.

My scarf is still a work in progress. I've long wanted to make myself a Harry Potter scarf and decided to finally go ahead and do it. I'm doing it with Ravenclaw colors. I'm not sure what I'll do if Pottermore (should the rest of us ever be allowed on) sorts me elsewhere, but I'll figure it out when I need to.

For those of you wondering, I decided to use blue and bronze, as those are the colors of Ravenclaw in the books, as opposed to blue and silver, which are the colors in the movies. I also decided to make a scarf in the style of the later movies because I like that pattern better. I'm using a technique called double knitting, which is why it is blue with bronze stripes on one side, but bronze with blue stripes on the other. And to anyone who says that it looks orange, not bronze, you try finding bronze yarn! That's what I thought.

I think I prefer the blue as the main color a little better, but both sides look nice. It'll be a while until I finish, although it's coming along nicely. I'll do another update when I finish the scarf.

Getting Excited

I've made it clear in the past that I like snow. As a result this winter has been very disappointing for me, as I have not really had the experience of snow so far. BUT! I was looking at weather.com today and I saw that snow is predicted to start tomorrow night, and continue through Thursday, with flurries on Friday and Saturday. But it get's better!

THERE'S A SPECIAL WEATHER ALERT ABOUT IT GETTING COLD AND SNOWING!!!!!! You know it's going to be good when weather.com issues a special alert about the snow we're going to get. Yes I realize I have once again demonstrated that I do not react the same way about things as other people. I realize that most people don't get this excited about snow (thought they should) and probably view special weather alerts as bad things (normally I'd agree on that one, but SNOW!). All I can say is that I'm really excited for snow. The smell of it, the sound it makes when I walk across it, but most of all the beauty that is looking out the window and seeing everything look clean and pretty.

I'm also excited that the timing works out that it won't start snowing until after I have to walk into town tomorrow to speak to my cell phone company. As much as I love walking in snow, I think it's a little nicer when you get to choose to walk in it, not when you have to. Especially if you have to walk longish distances.

So any, the point of the story is that I'm going to get snow!!!!

Apparently Math Isn't a Priority

So, like all university campuses are obliges to be, mine is undergoing construction. And, like all construction, it is inconvenient. There's the early morning wake-ups from banging on the building next door. There's the parts of the sidewalk that haven't been filled in yet, meaning that when it rains (cough today cough) you have to walk on mud while trying to avoid getting stabbed in the eye by other people's umbrellas.

The worst of all however is trying to get into my math class. To be clear, that white patch is tarp, not sidewalk.

Now I only have math there once a week. That being said, it is the main math department building. There are people who have math there every day. The only was in is through some small bushes that are currently in the mud.

Good job making it easy for us to get to math.

Change of Plans

So today was going to be part one of going over the Charleston trip I just got back from. But then there was a hurricane and I decided not to worry so much about putting the pictures on my computer so I could write about where I was. So instead I'll talk about hurricane Irene. Basically, my house and area are fine. My town had a huge storm about a year and a half ago referred to as Treepocalypse because there were so many down trees. School was canceled for a week. Half the town lost power for some period of time.

Basically I was expecting round two of that. What ended up happening is that there was a pretty big storm last night but we didn't lose power, our house is fine. There have been some fallen trees but not nearly as intense as previously.

In the meantime all our patio furniture is indoors because we didn't want it flying away. I have an emergency bag sitting on the floor of my room, unused. The roof, despite my mom's worries did not fly off. While I obviously didn't want anything to happen to the house or anything, there's sort of that feeling when you prep for a big emergency that it had better be worth it. So while I'm glad there's no real damage part of me is like, "That's it?" Oh well. At least the storm distracted me from the fact that one of my best friends is moving into her dorm today (Assuming her school, which was in the path of the hurricane, hasn't delayed opening).
