Camp is Over!

As much fun as this job was, I am exhausted. I was sleeping in the car on my way home. Many of the things I tried to say to my parents were slightly incoherent because I was too tired to care. Tonight...I get to sleep!

Also, I'm aware I missed posting yesterday. I had to pack during my free period, and the camp dance went late so lights out was later than usual. I just didn't have the time. I promise to do an extra post one day before the end of the month. For now though...sleep.

Sleep Schedules

I don't know how it happened but somehow I got on a nice regular sleep schedule during spring quarter at school. I went to sleep around midnight and woke up around 7:30. This kept happening until I finally learned to accept it. Once I accepted it, it was fabulous. I woke up refreshed, not cranky. Although I set an alarm, I never needed it, so the alarm ended up being a "okay, you should start thinking about leaving for class in about 15 minutes" alarm, rather than a "wake-up" alarm.

I kept it up for a while after I got home for the summer, but after about a week I left for my current job as a camp counselor. My sleep schedule has been ruined. I have no consistant sleep time, or wake up time. It's all dependant on when I want to shower, or if I have a staff meeting, or how much sugar I had before bed.

That being said, when the other counselors and I hang out after lights out, I'm the one who falls asleep on the couch in the lounge. Regularly.

Hopefully this means I'll be able to readjust back to my sleep schedule once I finish this job.

Six Flags, more flags more exhaustion

I'm already regretting making myself do this.

Let's see...

I went to Six Flags New England today with the camp I'm working at. I got to go on Bizarro (formerly Superman) pretty much right away, becaue the weather was sort of icky, so there was no line.

I fell asleep on the bus ride back to camp. That part was nice. The part where I had to be awake after that was less nice. But once I post this I can go to sleep so yay!

Coolest Pencils Ever

I was at CVS today doing boring things. I needed to take a new passport picture and I needed to replace the tissue pack I keep in my bag.

It was a normal, boring, trip to the store... until I looked at the back to school section. And saw these:
They're pencils where, instead of sharpening them, you pull out the tip when it gets run down and stick it in the top so a new sharp tip comes out. Obviously there's a limit to how many times you can do this until you get back to the start and have no more sharp tips but still, it's really cool! I had one or two pencils like this in elementary school and I loved them. So as a college student three weeks away from classes starting, I bought them. And I will have so much fun using them.

Note: I haven't written in a while, between work and traveling and everything this blog has been a bit neglected. Not to worry though. I plan on writing a bit extra to make up for it, and then eventually get back on a schedule.

Happiness Week?

So this week is Happiness Week. There's a student group called Happiness Club and this week they are doing something everyday to try and perk up the campus. Normally I'd be thrilled. Unfortunately, this school-wide Happiness Week is occurring right during my own personal "Everything is Due and There's No Escape" Week.

As much as I want to go out and get a temporary tattoo, or join in a water balloon fight, I can't because every time I think I'm done, more work pops up

That being said, I have made the decision to at least attend flashback Friday. It takes place after my last class on Friday, and it's only two hours. I will definitely have earned a happy fun break.

Evil Academy

Today it occurred to me that my classes are much more interesting if I pretend I'm learning how to be a supervillain and take over the world.

Macro Economics: One of the best ways to prevent rebellion of the peons is to maintain a stable economy that keeps them happy.

Engineering Design and Communication: My group is doing a project that involves lasers. I could always use a laser death ray to smite those who try to incite rebellion. Additionally we have to do lots of teamwork activities. I can't get to the top alone, I'll have to work well with others to achieve my goal of ruling over anything.

Engineering Analysis 3-System Dynamics: The world runs on systems. Knowing how they work will enable me to best know what systems to destroy and how, as well as how to build new systems for my new world order.

Analysis and Performance of Literature: I'll need to make speeches to pacify the public and to encourage them to remember not to rebel. Also, being able to read into the written works of the citizenry will allow me to notice if someone is subtly trying to incite rebellion.

C++ Programming: Today we used a pretend ATM model to learn about programs calling functions. Knowing about programming will help me to hack into bank computers and ATMs to ensure funds for my world domination scheme.

Disclaimer: I'm totally kidding. I have no plans to take over the world. I promise. Really. I would never lie about something like this.

Busy Week

I have so much going on this week, it's amazing, but stressful.

On Sunday I went ice skating on the outdoor rink built by student government (a picture of the rink is available in my last post), with some friends.

Today my dorm hosted a "fireside". The Rabbi from Hillel came and spoke to us about being a Jewish ghostbuster. It was a really interesting talk and I feel like I learned a lot about the Jewish views on ghosts, angels, ect.

Thursday there's a Q+A about the liberal arts requirements for engineering students at my school and an info session about career mentoring that night.

Friday night I'm going to the Chicago stop on the Dial-Up tour.

Add into all this my need to do all my homework. Of the six things I have due between Thursday and Friday, I have one completely done, two halfway done and three not even started. So, I'm going to get back to work.

Midterms

It's the first midterm week. What's that you say? First? Isn't there just one midterm per class? NO! There was one last week, two this week (as well as a host of paper as and lab reports). Then just before Thanksgiving Break it happens again. Basically, I'm eating a lot of ice cream. And procrastinating by writing this so I don't have to do homework. Or study. Or other things I need to do. Basically, this weekend's post will wither be a happy shiny "I'm done with midterms yay!" post or I'll spend the whole weekend asleep and will forget to write it. It's pretty much a toss up.

The Downside

So as awesome as my job is (I listed one of the many reasons yesterday), there is one big downside. The Parking lot I have to park in is evil. There are only about 4-5 spots that I can use and they are hard to get to. They are marked on the picture with orange dots. Today I was parked one space away from the end. During my time at work some evil jerk came and parked blocking me in. This was not nice.

Luckily my boss moved his car and then helped me to get my car out. He then left a note on the evil car warning them that they'd be towed if they did it again. So, that just shows, another reason my job is better than yours, an amazing boss. But if you have easy parking, you have one over on me.  Let me know good things/bad things about your summer job (or normal job) in the comments.

My Job is Awesome

This going to be a short post. It basically serves to let you all know that, today at least, my summer job is better than your summer job. Today at the day camp where I work I was essentially paid to watch Toy Story 3. You may all return to wishing you're jobs were as great as mine.
